- Russian Software Developer Beats Pirate in Boxing Ring - The Moscow Times is reporting that the chief software architect at Russian software developer Cognitive Technologies, Andrei Smirnov, recently won a boxing match organized between himself and a software pirate he caught selling bootlegged software CD's at a Moscow market.
- Dell's Alienware Acquisition caused by Threat from Apple - With the recent Intel/Apple relationship it’s clear that 15% (or whatever) of the consumer space for Dell may not be enough. Apple is likely to go to 8% with the help of Intel over the next year or so. The PC gaming market is threatening Dell’s “perceived technology leadership” – and ultimately the consumer space.
- EMI releases Brazilian DRM CDs that totally hose their customers - Brazilian mega-star Marisa Monte's new CDs? from EMI ("Infinito Particular" and "Universo ao Meu Redor") come with DRM that can't be uninstalled, and requires you to "agree" to a contract that isn't published in Portuguese. Even if you disagree, the malware is installed. The DRM blocks you from playing the CD on Linux and MacOS?, and from loading it onto an iPod. This, just as the Brazilian government has launched a Computers for All initiative to distribute 1,000,000 Linux PCs?, seems particularly contemptuous of the Brazilian people.
- Microsoft Vista Pushed Back Yet Again - Microsoft has announced that its upcoming Windows Vista operating system will be delayed until at least January of 2007. Can anyone say vaporware? That’s OK MS, take your time. Seriously. We really don’t need Vista. There are plenty of excellent alternatives.
- Adobe delays Adobe Creative Suite 3 until Q2 2007 - Intel Mac Users have a long time to wait till a native version of Adobe CS Suite comes to their systems
- Dell tries to sucker you into paying $10,000 for a gaming system - An overclocked 4.26 GHz? processor, 2 hard drives, one 10,000RPM the other 7,200 rpm, 2 Dual GPU SLI Graphics cards and a 30" Monitor
